We look forward to meeting you during induction week, and hope you find your work-based learning experience both enjoyable and enriching. What can you expect from the course team? - You will have the flexibility to choose what you learn and how you learn it. Throughout your course you will be assigned a personal tutor who will guide your learning through in- person or online supervision. Your tutor will provide you with academic supervision and feedback on draft components of each module portfolio. - We offer a wide range of innovative online learning resources designed to enhance your critical analysis, reflection and thinking skills. Additionally, we host monthly online action learning sessions where you can connect with fellow students to discuss clinical or academic issues in a supportive, problem-solving environment. - We are here to support you and can direct you to university teams and services whenever needed.
What can the course team expect from you? - Actively engage with academic supervision and adhere to assessment deadlines to ensure timely submission of your completed portfolio for assessment. - Make full use of Canvas online learning materials and action learning opportunities to enhance your critical analysis and to fully embrace the course’s work-based learning ethos. - Inform your personal tutor or the programme director of any difficulties or concerns that may impact your ability to continue or complete your studies.
Compulsory induction week Date and Time: 6 th – 10th October 2025 09.30 – 16.00 Location: 6th October Room - Vivian 128, first floor Vivian Tower, Singleton Campus (please note: room may be subject to change). 8th October 2025 - Vivian 223 and 10th October 2025 -Vivian 302.This week-long induction is the only taught component of the programme and plays a vital role in preparing you for your academic journey. Throughout the week, you will engage in a range of interactive learning experiences - both in person and online. You’ll: -
Meet the course team and your named personal tutor
Strengthen your critical thinking and academic writing skills
Be introduced to work based learning, portfolio development and action learning principles
Participate in spotlight sessions covering key elements such as your module portfolio, writing a learning contract, narrative writing and evidence gathering
Complete guided learning activities for discussion during the week
Please note: Attendance for the full week is mandatory. If you are unable to attend, your course start will be deferred to the next academic year.
Important reminders: - Ensure you are fully enrolled on the course and module SHGM90 prior to induction. Enrolment provides access to Canvas, our online learning platform and induction resources. - Bring a mobile device, as you’ll be accessing digital resources and developing your learning contract throughout the week.
