Dr Jodie Croxall
I am Co-Programme Director for the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) PGCert at Swansea University. My academic career spans over 16 years, with extensive experience in leading professional programmes across health and social care. I have worked closely with local authorities, NHS partners and third-sector organisations to ensure education is firmly aligned with practice and policy priorities.
My expertise lies in developing and directing courses that prepare practitioners for complex roles in health and social care. Alongside my work at Swansea, I have held senior roles at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, including Academic Director for Digital Health and Care and Associate Professor. I have been closely involved in programme development, curriculum design, quality assurance and student experience across a range of professional programmes.
In addition to my academic work, I am a Hospital Manager (Mental Health Act) for Hywel Dda University Health Board, further strengthening my links with mental health law and practice.
I came to higher education as a mature student myself, which has shaped both my teaching and my research into widening participation and the experiences of non-traditional students. My wider research interests include bereavement, vulnerable populations and health inequalities. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and have received awards for excellence in teaching and student employability.

Dr Sue Carnes Chichlowska
I am Co-Programme Director for the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) PGCert at Swansea University, working alongside Jodie Croxall. My career spans education, mental health practice and international public health, with a consistent focus on improving access to psychological support and strengthening the mental health workforce.
I have worked locally within Hywel Dda University Health Board as both a Mental Health Practitioner and Researcher, developing strong links between academic study and clinical practice. Internationally, I led a Master’s in Public Health programme within a College of Medicine in Central Africa, where I also co-created a Master’s in Clinical Psychology, helping to expand mental health training opportunities.
At Swansea University, I lead the Public Health Unit within the School of Health and Social Care. My research has centred on public mental health, access to psychological therapies and capacity-building for mental health services. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and hold a PhD, MSc, BSc (Joint Hons) and PGCE.

Alongside the Programme Co-Directors, students will be taught by a wide range of guest contributors, including experienced AMHP practitioners, legal experts and other professionals with specialist expertise relevant to AMHP practice.
