The teaching team consists of highly qualified perioperative lecturers alongside other specialist lecturers who have been delivering clinical programmes for many years.

The team’s experience of delivering perioperative care within the operating theatre and beyond provides learners with an excellent resource to develop an understanding of the relationship between theory and practice.

The team are experts in their field and are committed to the enhancement of perioperative care at local and national level through involvement with national associations, journal publication and information sharing in the wider healthcare environment.

Throughout our degree programmes we work to provide our students with opportunities in and around your School, the city with our industry partners and sign-post for international opportunities available to you. As a student at Swansea University, you will have the opportunity to engage with industry, take on placement opportunities and complete work experience, so that you are fully equipped for the world of work when you leave us. This process is facilitated by the Careers and Employability team who aim to provide careers advice and employment opportunities all under one roof.

As well as subject specific support by college teaching staff and your personal academic mentor, the Centre for Academic Success provides courses, workshops and one-to-one support in areas such as:

• Academic writing
• Maths and statistics
• Critical thinking
• Time management
• Digital skills
• Presentation skills
• Note taking
• Revision, memory and exam techniques
• English language skills (if English is not your first language).

In addition, if you have a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), disability, mental health or medical condition, the Centre for Academic Success have Specialist Tutors to support your learning, working alongside the Disability Office and Wellbeing Service to support all your needs and requirements whilst studying at Swansea University.

As an undergraduate student you will be given an Personal Tutor.  This is a member of teaching staff in the Faculty or School who acts as your key point of contact while you are at Swansea University.

You should meet with your Personal Tutor one-to-one at least once every Semester.  You may also be invited to group meetings or workshops with your Personal Tutor

Your Personal Tutor will guide and support you with your academic, professional and personal development.  They can help you with:

• Reviewing your academic progress
• Accessing academic and personal support e.g. with welfare issues
• Understanding the exam and assessment system
• Academic references for placements / job applications
• Answering any other questions you may have or recommend where to best seek advice

Tutors may also have ‘office hours’ when you can see them as well.  You can email your tutor if there is something you want to discuss and/or to arrange a meeting.

Being part of a Society is great fun, societies host regular socials, ranging from nights out and non-drinking socials in and around Swansea to trips in the local area & further afield!

They offer the opportunity for you to get the most of your uni experience by offering the chance to get to know your course mates and meet true friends while at uni. It is always important to have a good balance between work & pleasure, hence why we run the regular socials, as well as trips & days out in & around Swansea!

Being a new programme there isn't currenly a running Operating Department Practice Society!

If you are interesting in being part of the Society and stsrting it up, we need a new committee which normally consists of:

President - Chairing meetings, making sure everyone else is doing their bit and making sure the society behaves in line with SU rules.

Treasurer - Looking after the societies’ funds, making sure that anything you raise from membership is put back into the society (socials, end of year balls etc.) and it’s all documented (receipts etc.) with the SU

Social Sec - Planning the parties! Coming up with fun ideas for socials, booking with clubs/bars, and promotion of events

Secretary - Writing minutes in meetings and helping with general organising

Web  Officer-  Social media, posting events and monitoring the Facebook page

Publicity Officer -Organising & arranging marketing material, event décor, flyers, t-shirts etc
