   I’m a third-generation Bangladeshi, born and raised in Birmingham. My grandparents moved to the UK in the 1960s, and their work ethic and resilience have deeply influenced my journey. My long-term ambition is to become a leader in the medtech space, developing technologies that improve healthcare, while continuing to inspire underrepresented students in STEM.

When I'm not immersed in research, I enjoy peaceful beach walks, discovering cosy cafés and trying out new recipes in the kitchen.

 BEING A SUBJECT REPRESENTATIVE

I chose to become a Subject Representative because I am passionate about making sure student voices are heard - especially at PhD level. Having first-hand experience of how isolating and overwhelming doctoral study can sometimes feel, I want to help create a sense of community and ensure no one feels like they're going through it alone. Being in this role allows me to advocate for students’ needs and work with staff to make our environment more supportive, inclusive and collaborative.

 KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

My main responsibility is to act as a voice for my fellow students by gathering feedback on their experiences and raising any concerns with academic staff through formal meetings and regular communication. I also help identify areas where our research environment can be improved - with the goal of enhancing both academic and personal well-being within the PhD community.

MY CURRENT STUDIES...

What I love most about my course is how my research aligns perfectly with my long-term goal of advancing medical technologies that improve lives. I am researching wireless power transfer systems for implanted medical devices - an area that combines engineering with real-world healthcare applications. It is exciting to know that my work will make a meaningful difference in how we monitor and treat critical conditions.
