Walking is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to get around Swansea. It’s free, sustainable and great for your wellbeing - even 10 minutes of brisk walking a day can boost your health and lift your mood.

Both campuses are well connected to the city and local areas, making it simple to travel on foot - and we're a pedestrian friendly campus, with large sections of our campuses pedestrianised and surrouned by green spaces, wooded areas and botanic gardens. We have introduced dropped kerbs, safe crossings and easy access to buildings for pedestrians.

If you prefer two wheels, Swansea is a great place to cycle. National Cycle Network Route 4 links Singleton and Bay Campuses (around 6 miles) and connects to the wider Swansea cycle network. Swansea Council has some great cycling information and advice including maps and routes on their website. 

We support you with:

• Secure cycle parking on campus, where we have a 24/7 security and campus response service.

• Free bike marking with Bike Register.

• Free locks and lights - collect from Fulton House Reception (Singleton) and Hwb (Engineering Central - Bay).

• Dr Bike repair workshops and bike maintenance sessions.

• Organised social rides and a Student Cycle User Group.

• 15% discount on cycling gear at Uprise in Uplands, Swansea.

No bike? No problem - join the Swansea University Cycles scheme for just £10 a year. The first 30 minutes of every ride are free, with low-cost rates after that.

*Please note that Swansea University does not allow the use of e-scooters on any of its sites. It remains illegal to ride e-scooters in any public area within Wales including roads, cycle paths or pavements. To ride e-scooters on private land the permission of the landowner has to be given.

Regular buses provided by First Bus connect Singleton Park Campus, Bay Campus, the city centre and student accommodation.

Discounts Available to Swansea University Students

• 16–21? Apply for a free mytravelpass with your address in Wales to get single tickets from £1 and day tickets from £3.

• It's quicker and convenient if you get these tickets in advance through the First Bus App, where you can get single tickets as bundles of 10 - go to “Tickets” at the bottom – select “Buy” at the top right – then select “Singles” - and don't forget you need to show your mytravelpass card to the driver.

• 22 or over? Use Tap On Tap Off across the UniBus network for capped fares (£2 single, £4 day cap).

• If you're not eligible for a mytravelpass, you can apply for a 10% discount code which can be used when purchasing standard fare FirstBus Tickets: 12-month, Academic year, Term1, Term2, Term3, Summer. Key Services for Swansea University Students

• The UniBus services connecting to both Singleton and Bay Campus are 89, 90, 91,92 - all stop inside the campus.
• The 3a, 4, 4a, and X1 First Bus services all stop inside Singleton Campus.
• The X1, X5, X7 and 38 services all stop outside Bay Campus.
• The 92 and 91 are the Campus to Campus buses, and the X1 also stops inside Singleton, but outside Bay Campus.
• Late night buses (N91 and N92) run throughout the week, with the N92 running until 4am Wednesday to Saturday! 
• Improved X1 service links Singleton Campus, Bay Campus, Swansea City Centre and Neath Port Talbot Hospital.

Alternative Services

New Adventure Travel (NAT) and South Wales Transport (SWT) also run services in the area.

• NAT buses and SWT buses calling inside Singleton Campus are: 43, 116, 14.
• NAT buses dropping off outside Bay Campus are: Traws Cymru T6.
• Single tickets can be purchased on these services too.
• Those with a mytravelpass who purchase a day ticket or return ticket can use it on all participating, local bus services.

Check out our safe travel tips below:

• Always wait in well-lit areas (and with other students if possible).
• Be alert and keep valuables out of site.
• If a night bus is empty or quiet, sit close to or behind the driver.
• Alert the bus driver if you are concerned by another passenger’s behaviour.
• If you go out at night with your friends, keep each other’s numbers and check on each other if you lose each other: ‘Go out together, stay together, and go home together’.
• Make sure that you have downloaded the Safezone app to your phone to use in an emergency, such as on buses or when you are cycling or walking.

Are there services between campuses?

Yes the 91 and 92 provided by First Bus are the campus to campus services, plus the X1 which stops inside Singleton and outside Bay. 

Which bus should I catch from the train station?

• To Singleton Campus: routes 4 or 91 (direct from station).

• To Bay Campus: 89, 90 or 91 (outside station).

What’s the cheapest way to travel by bus?

• Aged 16–21: apply for a mytravelpass – single tickets from £1.

• Over 21: use Tap on Tap Off capped fares (£2 single / £4 day cap) or buy a term-time/annual pass via the First Bus app.

What if I lose my mytravelpass?

• You’ll need to pay full fare until you replace it. Call TFW on 0300 200 22 33 for a new card.

What’s the best value for train travel?

• Apply for the 16–25 Railcard (£35) or the £25 TFW Student Railcard (valid in Wales).

Can I hire a bike?

• Yes! Swansea University Cycles membership is £10 per year.

How do I register my bike?

•  Attend a free bike marking session, or email us.
