Physician Associate Studies student and lecturer with anatomy model

Congratulations on securing a place to study at Swansea University

Welcome to Swansea!!

Congratulations on gaining a place on the Masters in Physician Associate Studies (MPAS) programme at Swansea University.  We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Swansea University, Medical School in September.

You will be taught by experienced clinicians and educators from the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science, which incorporates Swansea University Medical School, and local Health Boards. These include healthcare professionals across the multi-disciplinary team.

I am sure you have thought long and hard before deciding to become a Physician Associate and have considered the responsibilities and privileges that come with being a healthcare professional as well as the challenges and opportunities you may have as a student and a qualified PA in a young profession.

You may have also thought about what is expected of you and how you should conduct yourself. There are several documents that have been published advising of the standards expected of PAs as students and as qualified clinicians.

The highest standards of professional behaviour are expected at all times.

The purpose of these standards is to protect patients, maintain the public’s trust in the profession and processes for managing professionalism concerns and fitness to practice. You should be aware that these standards of behaviour apply at all times, even outside of your studies. You are expected to take the time to read and familiarise yourself with these documents and reflect on how they apply to you from now on.

At Swansea we pride ourselves on our high standards and being a fair, friendly and supportive learning community. We hope that you find your educational journey with us challenging, enjoyable and rewarding. We look forward to you joining us.
