Addendum to the Swansea University Framework Regulations for Joint Doctoral Degrees - Swansea University to govern Swansea University and the Doctoral Training Network in Sport Ethics and Integrity’s joint PhD programmes.
1. General Background information
The Doctoral Training Network in Sport Ethics and Integrity (DaiSI) Home | DAiSI (daisi-project.eu) is an interdisciplinary network of research institutions and non-governmental organizations in the field of sports ethics and integrity. The network comprises of eight leading international bodies and five universities:

2. Entry Conditions
Specific requirements for the Doctoral Training Network in Sport Ethics and Integrity’s joint PhD programmes:
- It is noted that a contract between partner institutions/approved partners for an individual candidate cannot be signed until the joint doctoral candidate has been admitted into the doctoral programme of all partner institutions/approved partners.
- Students in NSSS are required to submit, within 6 months of the start date, an application to the NSSS Quality Assurance Committee which includes a 10-page description of the proposed study.
3. Candidature Period
Specific requirements for the Doctoral Training Network in Sport Ethics and Integrity’s joint PhD programmes:
- Students in NSSS are required to pursue 30 taught credits (ECTS) during the period of candidature. These credits will be completed during their stay at one of the training schools in NSSS.
4. Monitoring of Progress
Specific requirements for the Doctoral Training Network in Sport Ethics and Integrity’s joint PhD programmes:
- An annual report is required to be provided to NSSS on the progress of the student.”
5. Examination of Research Students
5.1
Constitution of the Examining Board for the Examination of Research Students (explained in the Guide to the Examination of Research Students - Swansea University).
- Composition of the Examination Board for students studying in partnership with NSSS shall consist of the following individuals:
- Two External Examiners (one from each partner) and two internal examiners (one from each partner).
- The Viva will occur at Swansea University either in person or online. If necessary corrections can be made following the viva.
- A written report (after corrections if needed) will be provided to NSSS and the oral examination/Public Defence shall take place (either in person or online).
5.2
Examination of Research Students studying in partnership with the University of Mainz (JGU)
In conformity with the regulations in force within each institution and on the basis of a favourable report from the examination committee, the two institutions undertake to award a joint doctoral degree to the successful candidate, recognised by both institutions:
Joint Doctor of (degree title) from the home institution
and
Joint Doctor of (degree title) from the host institution.
Each institution shall issue its own diploma document. The diploma and/or diploma supplement will explicitly mention the partnership with the other Institution and the joint supervision of the thesis, in conformity with the regulations in force within each of the Institutions.
5.3
Examination of Research Students studying in partnership with the University of Lausaunne
Students studying in partnership with the University of Lausaunne are examined by a colloquium consisting of a jury composed of the members of the Examining Board and supervisors (whilst the supervisors may attend they may not have a role in the colloquium).
